Gypsywort, Lycopus europaeus, is a lovely wildflower with various uses and a distinct habit. Typically found in wetlands and along riverbanks, it thrives in moist, shady locations. This perennial herb can grow up to 1 meter tall, but is usually around 50cm tall, and has square stems and whorls of small, tubular flowers. Gypsywort has traditional medicinal uses, as well as being a black dye.
Gypsywort prefers rich, damp soils and can tolerate partial shade.
